My daughter was born on Biggie’s bday in 2020, just 4 days before the George Floyd tragedy. It felt irresponsible to participate in the protests with a new born but I wanted to offer something as a representation that I stood with the people. So many of our black women took leadership roles marching, speaking and leading on the front lines. I created the record to say “I see you & I appreciate you”. I was fortunate again to have Keyon contribute & the record was featured on Spotify’s Black Lives Matter playlist throughout Black History Month. By the time she was a year old she was singing “Brown Skin Girls” in her car seat. As a father, my responsibility is to do all I can to help her maintain the natural confidence she has now. I’m hoping this record is a good reminder throughout her life.
